Travel and visa
A practical guide to coming to India for treatment, for you and the person who travels with you. Visa rules differ by nationality and change; your coordinator tells you which route usually applies to you.
Medical visa
- The patient needs a medical visa. The person who travels with you needs a medical attendant visa.
- Many nationalities can apply online for an e-Medical visa, at least 4 days before arrival. The Government of India sets the validity and the number of entries, and they change; check indianvisaonline.gov.in.
- Other nationalities apply at the nearest Indian embassy or consulate.
- Either way, you need an invitation letter from the hospital. We arrange it once you choose a hospital. We do not issue visas and cannot guarantee approval.
On arrival
- Someone we arrange meets you at the airport and takes you to your hotel or the hospital.
- Patients on a medical visa may need to register with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO). We guide you through it.
- We help you get a local SIM card and change money at authorised money changers.
Where you stay
- Guest houses and serviced apartments near the big hospitals suit long stays, and most have a kitchen.
- Halal, vegetarian and familiar regional food is easy to find near hospitals that treat patients from abroad.
- Your attendant can usually stay in your hospital room.
Going home
- The hospital gives you a discharge summary, your prescriptions and, where needed, a fit-to-fly note.
- We arrange follow-up video calls with your doctor.
- If you ask us, we send your reports to your doctor at home.
What the trip costs for two
Flights, visas, a place to stay, food and local travel for you and one attendant, from each country we serve. These costs are separate from the hospital's bill.
